Gathered end hammock with pole through the end.

Was wondering if anyone has ever tried to put a 6 to 4 inch pipe through the gathered ends, and run rope through the pipe to hang the hammock to prevent calf ridge?

My thought on this is it will more evenly distribute the weight to prevent it. I know it’s similar to a bridge hammock, but thought since it was a short pipe it may give the comfort of a gathered end.

Going to grab some pipe tomorrow, but thought I’d ask.

Absolutely! Perhaps about 5-6 years ago, I believe it was Redoleary who posted that very concept and many, including me, built one.

I should specify. Did it work as far as eliminating the calf ridge? And what were the downsides to it?

I did Red's mod as well, can't say it was very effective for me. Funny thing is that I still have the short spreader bar I used, and look at it every day, it is laying on my morning coffee on the porch table.
