Tricks to maintaining a comfortable diagonal lay

I recently received a beautiful new Incubator that I ordered from the crew at HG. The craftsmanship on this piece is stellar but I'm afraid that I've hit a bit of a learning curve as this is my first full-length UQ.

I have a Warbonnet XLC 2.0 and I am currently struggling in that I feel like the full-length UQ fights my diagonal lay a bit (forces me towards banana).

I watched Shug's videos on adjusting a full-length UQ and tried tightening the secondary suspension on sides nearest my feet and head and felt like it kept in in place on the shoulder and foot a bit more but still feel like it fights against my diagonal lay (maybe more).

Is this just something I need to get used to with a full-length UQ or is there something I can try? I'd rather not have to convince my sweet wife that, although I just got my new Incubator, I now need a Wooki...

Thanks for any help or insight you might be willing to share.

You can set it on a bias meaning pulling your shoulder side a bit tighter and other shoulder looser. and the same on the foot end...may help.

I think it's just practice and familiarity with it.

I may try loosening up the primary suspension and cranking the secondary a bit more. I may also have had the end cinch done up a bit too tight. I'll check on those and see if it makes a difference.

I hope to get lots more practice in because this UQ is really nice. Maybe time and experience will get me over this little curve.

It can be helpful to have someone else look at the quilt while you're in the hammock to dial it in especially someone with experience.

There's no way that a UQ is fighting your ability to get a diagonal lay. It's mostly psychological, getting used to underquilts.

Personally, I find that getting some assistance from an experienced UQ user is paramount to properly fitting it. I've never even tried to adjust my UQ by myself. I lay in my hammock, get my diagonal lay, then ask an experienced user to check for any gaps and adjust the UQ accordingly.

I don't know how to adjust an UQ by myself. How am I supposed to know if there are gaps if I'm laying in my hammock? I can't see underneath the hammock.

    Good luck!

This is normal. The tighter you crank the suspension, the more it will squeeze in. Any other suspension type will not have this problem.

That is one of the main reasons why I don't use underquilts that are suspended from the corners anymore. Some people don't mind the continuous pressure of the shock cords; and if you don't sleep cold, you can have the suspension less tight, which helps with the pressure. I was mostly fine during the summer months, but as soon as it got colder and I needed to tighten the suspension, the pressure was back. I did a lot of experimenting but never found a satisfying solution. I have now switched to Wooki underquilts completely. They stay in the right position by themselves. I still remember the first time I hung a Wooki under my hammock, got in and couldn't believe the lack of pressure! I have never been able to lie that diagonally fully relaxed.
