I think you might have misunderstood me. I wasn't stating that nylon webbing didn't stretch, I can vouch for that myself easily, but that it stretches less than comparable polyester webbing. But, I still could be wrong.

I did misunderstand you, but I still disagree. The whole reason that many of us have switched from nylon to polyester is because of the lack of stretch we experience from polyester. Since switching my hammock suspensions to 1" polyester webbing, I've experienced NO problems from stretch.
As I said before, this has been discussed before here, here, and in other threads as well.

yep, i believe it's become clear that comparable webbing of nylon will stretch noticeably more than polyester.
and ewker, have you used the speer again & still got stretch after we talked about that on another thread?
if so, you must be hanging it from trees that way farther apart than you should be. there's no way it's continuing to stretch that much if you have used it a time or two unless you're doing something wrong.

Tim, I still ended up on the ground..you got a PM
Go out and look at the seat belts in your vehicle - they are polyester.
Polyester is used because it has VERY little stretch which is what you want in a seat belt. Keeps you from going through the windshield.
Climbers use nylon webbing because it does stretch, which is what they want. After a long fall they do not want to stop suddenly.

I have used the ring buckle system over 50 times now and have never had any slippage. I have used it with nylon webbing and now polyester webbing. I set my wifes hammock up with it and she has had no problems either. She insists on using a sleeping bag and the strain she puts on the suspension is considerable when she is trying to get into it. I do put slip knots in on hers but if I didn't think it was safe she would not be using rings. BTW, I go 230 so I am not what you would call a light weight!!!
When it goes over their heads, it really doesn't matter how high it is.
you puzzle me ewker. what's not safe about them?
just like it's been said time & time again, if a person has concerns about slippage, it takes less than 2 seconds to add a slip knot against the rings.
after i add the slip knot, i'd challenge anyone to make it slip.
then un-doing the slip knot is a simple tug. nothing to it.
nothing un-safe about the ring buckles... unless it's someone just not understanding the basic principle of how to use them. ...tim
