    Hammock Hanging Posts for Backyard

    Need some help with some Posts I want to install to hang from. I have a lone tree in our back yard - an aspen of average size - that isn't suitable to hang from. The Two times I have attempted I am on the ground due to the bending of the aspen once fully loaded.

    I have salvaged 2 9' metal posts - the kind you see in parking lots that have signs bolted to them, 2" square posts with the holes in them - and I have seen a product at lowes called silka which is a foaming post hole filler;

    Basically I am curious if this will be enough to hang from - I was thinking of burying the posts 3' deep.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I am going to have to beef up the posts to hang from them but maybe not......

    Here are a bunch of threads and posts on that subject.....https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...archid=9885858

    Never done it myself but I would angle it away from hammock for less stress on pole. Sink it 3 to 4 feet.

    I'm also for angling the posts. They might also need guys. Rather than dig holes and then fill them in, drive the posts in and call it done. That will be firmer and better for the poles. Encasing any post, whether it be wood or metal shortens the life of the post. If you must dig holes, fill with gravel, tamping as you go.

    Excellent Advice and if it were just my set up I would heed but here is the rub - Wife doesn't want "2 ugly poles sittin in the middle of her backyard". So my first thought was to try and create something like this -
    1d5fc5e81d4a8afd62150bd6aa8e2174.jpg
    But since the posts are metal I would have to have something slightly different for the top - similar but different.
    So if anyone has made something like or seen something like this let me know.

    If you want to be able to take the polls down you can bury these and slide the posts in and out. 6X6 posts at a minimum is all I would recommend.

    That would be my vote. Two poles can hang one hammock. Four poles can hang five hammocks with one on the diagonal.
    Cross beams at the top will take lateral load off the poles.

    So ditch the metal posts and build the structure with four posts. Then you can both hang or, when not hanging, sit on a bench under it and sip coffee!
