Those look pretty slick. I might need to order those. Depending on how they look I would just use an Amsteel loop to connect the two tops which gives you easy setup/takedown and some “give” at the top. I think any bolt or stiffer connections would create shear stress and break things but the Amsteel connection (which I use on my EMT version of the tensahedron) should work great.
Right. I was thinking that you could either remove the bolt and wing nut then chamfer the holes and grind the threads flat to accept Amsteel CLs, or figure out some cordage attachment using a pin through the threaded holes. It looks to be aluminum, so you could machine it pretty quickly with just a Dremel.
You might be able to connect two of these together mechanically by interlocking them with a single, longer bolt that goes through both of them--essentially creating a hinge--but that may not work due to the reason you mentioned.

I played around with several options and went with the most simple. After experimenting with basic lashing to prove concept I decided to use the same idea as I did with my EMT tensahedron to joint the ends.
Holes drilled, reamed and sanded smooth in the fiberglass ends and aluminum thread tips. Amsteel loops threaded though the bottom fiberglass ends connected to each other with simple paracord across the bottom span. I may eventually change to an adjustable whoopie sling type connection but was running short on amsteel.
The upper aluminum thread ends are connected with amsteel simple loops. I first threaded the steel hoops on the amsteel, ran both ends through the first then second upper threaded tips then did a simple wrap around the pole in the rear and tied a big bulky figure-8 knot. All of these connections are tight enough to hang easily but loose enough that when all collapse the poles lay absolutely parrallel for easy storage.
When I was using the paracord lashing in the prototype the upper angle lashing would not allow the tube to be held parallels due to the tension.

DIY gathered end hammock, Lash-it fixed ridgeline, Costco UQ with shockcord ends, (red tarp was temporarily draped across RL but was for standing on the ground.
I slept in this last week. Temps down to about 34degrees at a campsite between Ketchum and Stanley. Toasty warm. Worked great.
What size hole did you drill in the poles?
What kind of a bit did you use?

Hole size? Probably about 3/16”. Regular drill bit.
