Easy Mod Dutchware Summer Sock Bivy

Quick and easy mod to convert your Dutch summer sock to a bivy in case you have to go to ground. Although not necessary, you should use a ground cloth to protect your gear. To do this, you need to use two hiking poles (sticks) or one pole and one object like a tree. Run a line 12’-14’ between the two poles that are staked out.

Attach 6 Dutch alligator clips or similar to the summer sock. One for each corner to your cloth and 2 to your netting. You will want to protect the netting with a small piece of cloth in between the clip and net so it won’t mess up the net. Mine was aleady roughed up by some mitten hooks so I just skipped that step ...LOL.

Next you prussik some hair ties (loops) to your main ridge line and clip on with some mitten hooks to hold netting up. Then you stake out the 4 corners lightly just to spread out the sock and you are done.

To add your tarp as a rain fly, just prussik the ends on to the main ridge line and pull out using same 4 corner stakes. Try at your own risk and God Bless!

Above Short Round tries out bivy for first time.

Below is sample tarp setup just as a visual representation.

    will do, cheers

I'm thinking of making it more permanent by adding sewn or glued tabs to all the corners

For the net you can sew in a D-ring like I had done on my other hammock net for a permanent mod.
