I know a lot of times I find a great spot to hang and need to rig a long hang to make it happen.

That was also one of my thoughts.

12' is almost always long enough. I'm pretty sure Dutch will make up your Beetle Buckle straps at that length if you ask. He often does that sort of thing. However, I'd get (in fact I just did!) 15' straps. The extra weight and bulk is trivial compared to 12s. The extra length is a pain when you have to thread buckles all the time but you won't be doing that with Beetles. After some time, if it turns out that 15' is truly overkill for you, shorten them.

I just looked at Dutch's site under spider/poly straps he offers huggers (loops on each end) in 4,5,and 7 ft lengths and straps(just one loop) in 8,12,and 15 foot lengths.Ditto for the black poly straps and huggers.

Ok. Maybe I missed something. I was at this link ( https://dutchwaregear.com/product/be...dware-attached ) and the Webbing option only showed 8 and 15 feet.

Although, the more I think about it and see the responses from everyone I think I will just go with 15 feet and if I really find it too long I can always trim off a foot or two.

I got the 15 foot straps with my beetle buckles when I ordered my Chameleon from Dutch. They roll up small and are very light. Then I discovered splicing Amsteel and can't stop making whoopie slings and soft shackles (somebody please help). Now I have 2 inch tree straps (a six foot and an eight foot set) and use soft shackles to attach the whoopies to the straps, then a carabiner (for a water break) between the fixed loop on the whoopie to the CL on the hammock.

Then I got my first roll of Zing It and started spicing that (really, somebody help me) with Dutch Hooks and Wasps for ridgelines. Soft Shackles with Zing It are fun, too (please, please help me). I just ordered a roll of Lash It for a change in color.

Hi, my name is John and I'm addicted to splicing slippery string.....

I enjoyed this post, and I can relate. But you don't need help, you just need more cordage!

Two 12' straps work for me, and I carry one Amsteel 6' dog bone just in case. I've had to use it only once or twice.

Well, I didn't see any responses that I hadn't anticipated. Actually, I was already leaning toward 15-foot straps simply because I figured that coming up short would be more of an issue than having too much strap left over. I was basically hoping to have my idea confirmed.... which I did. Thank you to everyone who added their two cents, maybe all the good ideas will help someone else. Alright, time to go visit Dutch's website!
