    Angleworm Trail BWCA

I just got back from my first trip to the BWCA. If you've never been it is worth the effort to get up there. We had a night of thunderstorms, but other than that it was decent weather. The bugs were pretty much non existent thankfully. The trail is in good shape all the way around and fall colors are just kicking off!

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing your pictures and reminding those of us in the sweltering South that the colors do change and Autumn will come.

Gorgeous, great photos. One of my favorite trails, good choice. The one time I got my wife up there that little creek crossing with the planks and the downed spruce tree was six feet under water. We had to float the dog across using those planks as a raft. Good times.

Alifeoutdoors, that sounds like a rough start. What shape was the rest of the trail in during that trip?

Great photos, looks like a great trail, really liked the photo of the beaver dam crossing! Nice to hear that the trail is in good shape - when I did the Border and Kek 10 years ago they were a total mess from the blow down.

The lack of bugs after Labor Day is why the group I paddle with always does our canoe trip then. The lakes are still warm, but the crowds empty out after Labor Day weekend.

    Keep up the great photography!

The rest of the trail was perfect. Somehow at the very southern end of the lake behind that stream, a beaver dam had gone out somewhere and flooded the southern end. That whole south east corner of the lake, where the trail skirts the lake along the marshy bit, was underwater. Even after the stream "swim" we still had calf deep water till we hit the trail/portages junction. It was crazy. I never could find out what happened until I stumbled on a post on a really random forum from a US Forest Ranger warning about the flood. Unfortunately several years later.

But as you can see from my wife's grin, we were still having a great time. Since we were headed out anyway, made a fun little story to tell later. Aye, if we had been going counter clockwise that trip, she probably wouldn't have been grinning.

It’s true that backpacking is all about the experiences. You may tell a stories for a few weeks about the beauty of the place you visited, but it seems like stories about the experiences last forever! I agree, it looks like she was having fun in her soggy britches haha.
