    MO/KS area

I'm down for any of the nearby state Parks. Cheney lake works and El Dorado lake is nice to but lacks tree variety.

Just adding two additional places you can hang in Kansas in case someone finds this while searching.

    Pomona Lake
There are several spots at Cedar Park Campground (free) that you can hang hammocks https://usace.contentdm.oclc.org/uti...oll10/id/11377. Here is where you will find it https://goo.gl/maps/NBpkNvQQQxDPeMqq7. The campground is in the middle of a nice hiking trail that forms a very tight loop, almost an out and back. There are the blue and orange tracks. Here is a link to the orange track https://www.alltrails.com/explore/tr...k-orange-trail

You can also go to the west end of the lake and hang in the Carbolyn State Park https://goo.gl/maps/KBGQ8YDVrMhHC1sh6. The campground is free from October 1st to May 1st. This campground has lots of campsites that will handle 3+ hammocks. I haven't looked for trails around there yet.

    Melvern Lake
There are two nice campgrounds on the south side of the lake that you can hang in. And, there is supposed to be an 8-mile trail between them to get some backpack time in. Again, these campgrounds are free from October 1st to May 1st. Here are links to the two campgrounds: Coeur Dalene https://goo.gl/maps/Y6L4R2yBrNKkMBfi7 and Arrow Rock https://goo.gl/maps/RYkdJnJYqgxmeEAN6.

We went out the weekend of 9/6/2019 and both lakes were way up. The guy at the Corps said Pomona was 14 feet above there normal pool level. The three campgrounds on the lakes that we visited were significantly underwater. One of the roads to Cedar Park campground was flooded out.

There are a few places down around the Elk River:

This one has a pretty good hike with primitive campsites and hammock options:

This one is primarily a good day hike with a state campground at one end. There are permit fees for this one.

As mentioned in an earlier post, there are a lot of nice hiking trails and wild camping areas just across the Missouri border into Arkansas...anything from long trails to short ones, easy ones to challenging ones. Someone mentioned Hemmed in Hollow...my daughters and I made a two day trip out of that one...found a gorgeous place to hang halfway down at an overlook...went the rest of the way down after setting up camp to admire the spectacular waterfall and filter water from the crystal clear river. There’s nice wilderness camping not far from Redding Campground, up near Spy Rock with some nice shorter trails going to the Spy Rock Overlook and others looping down and back to Redding. Lots of neat places to explore around the Ozark Highland Trail area. Up on the Missouri end, Bell Mountain and the Ozark Trail is also nice, but the Arkansas portion is nicer—IMHO. (And I’m a Missourian, so it’s not home-state bias speaking.)

Someone will probably start one soon. We're still getting daily high temps in the 90's, not exactly the kind of weather that spurs thoughts of sitting around a campfire. But it won't be long now until that changes! My wife and I did a trip out in Tahoe last month and had perfect weather... highs mostly in the upper 70's and nights right around 50 degrees. You can find the trip report and pictures HERE if you are interested. We might try to do another trip someplace here in Missouri or maybe the place you mentioned down in Arkansas sometime in November. If we do, we might put out an invitation for others from the forum to join us, so keep an eye out for that.

In any case, I'm glad to see there is already interest in the annual FBH. Looking forward to getting together with the gang again! Hope all is well with you and yours and please give Remy a pat on the head for me.

Perry Lake near Topeka has a nice trail system for backpacking and camping, near 29 miles total. Thousand Hills trail in Missouri is one of my favorites too. Itís not a long trail but itís a nice out and back around the lake with a great campground at the turnaround point.

Iím going to Turkey Pen Hollow this weekend and will give it a thumbs up or down report if anyone is interested.

I would be interested in attending a local FBH if itís in the works!
