    Whoopie Slings

So, I recently started making whoopie slings, and from what I've seen, it's not terribly common to have a fixed brummel loop on both ends, the loop is often on only one end.

It seems to me you get a much larger effective adjustable length if you can use either end as an anchor, which means using 12'6" of rope, I get an adjustable length of 22" - 125". I'll post my math below. Going from 22" to 125" would only mean changing the fixed loop you connect to, if that makes it more clear. Below is the "math" I used, assuming 6" buries and 12" constrictor.
    loop + bury + space + constrictor
    3" + 6" + 1" + 12" = 22", connected on fixed loop on bury side and whoopie loop
(12" for 3" loop plus bury)
loop + bury + line length until constrictor
    3" + 6" + 116" = 125" or 10'5", connected to whoopie loop and fixed loop on free end

I'm sure I'm not the first to notice how much more versatile a whoopie is with a loop on both ends, is there a reason it's not more common? If needed I can post pictures when I get home showing what I'm talking about.

    EDIT: Adding pictures
    This is "whoopie mode"

    This is "UCR mode"

You can see the chair at the far end is in a different loop in each picture, and I didn't adjust the whoopie at all.

I’m not following. You could attach a biner to the adjustable end and now you have an anchor on that end.

It sounds to me like you just explained a UCR. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...To-Make-an-UCR

If the end close to the constrictor is the only end with a fixed loop, the effective range of that whoopie sling is 22" - 80". If the end away from the constrictor is the only end with a fixed loop, the effective range of the whoopie is 67"-125". When you have a loop on both ends, you get the full 22"-125" range. Does that make it more clear?

It's similar, but different I think. Mine is all from a single piece of line with no cuts.

Oh, I think I get it. Interesting idea. It would be much more like a UCR, than a whoopie. The real question is going to be: is it in any way an improvement over the standard UCR? You would still need a tail coming out of the constrictor bury for tension on that side, which is the big annoyance with UCR’s.

I think it's probably the best of both worlds - it functions exactly like a whoopie, and when you get to lengths beyond that it's a little more similar to a UCR. I guess my point is, with the versatility this offers, why would you NOT have a loop on both ends?

    Edit:
I guess the most direct way it would be an improvement over UCR is that for shorter lengths, you have significantly less tail because the length covered is doubled (like a normal whoopie).

Well, the way I am imagining it (which may be wrong), would actually have a pretty long minimum length because shortening the entire line causes the adjustable end to get bigger.

Instead of complicated this with words, I will use my practically non-existent drawing skills to clarify. This is what’s going on in my brain right now. Are we on the same page? The zig-zaggy part is the constrictor portion.

It might look like that based on my drawing, but don’t take it too literally. I just couldn’t think of a better way to draw it, lol.
