    First Whoopie Sling..and 2nd, and 3rd.....

Well, I figured out how to make a whoopie sling with a brummel on the other end. I really cannot believe how easy it is. I think the hardest part is trimming the ends for the taper just because Amsteel is tough to get through. So now I have probably 10 whoopies.

Is it just me, or did anyone else have some trepidation of suspending your whole weight on a 7/64 string that is not knotted to anything? I know the science is sound, everything is held by friction, but I have never used any small diameter cordage that holds more than a couple hundred pounds. I was pretty nervous about getting into my hammock the first time using whoopie slings.

That Amsteel is amazing stuff. Stronger than an equivalent sized steel cable yet it floats.

Since amsteel is tough to cut and tends to dull knives and scissors quickly I usually use a razor knife. Make tapers in 7/64 by placing the line on a cutting board and then cut on an angle with a razor blade. For 1/8" pulling out strands to form the taper is best.

Thanks for the tip. I was pulling out the strands on the 7/64, but I think cutting on an angle will be much easier. I use the scissors on my Gerbe multitool. It cuts fairly well, but I tend to pull the strands up from the standing end. I will give the other method a try.
