What is the worst part of hammocking . . . for you

center pole mod makes such a big difference to the tarp (especially in a 90* hammock) in crazy broadside winds

for me, the worst part of hammocking is simply that I can't do it often enough, and that the good hang spots are a fair distance away

Getting out in the middle of the night. I have a wide hammock and I need to be closer to the edge to get out. Also the hammock seems to sink down during the night on me, not sure if it's my 330 lbs girlish figure or poor set up on my part...

The worst part for me would have to be my gear hammock. Only because I haven't modified it yet to have a guy out to pull it away from me. Other than that, would be the bugnet. I love my Fronkey net but will probably make a Halfwit style net to allow more airflow.

After a winter trip it's the unpacking of damp, smokey and smelly gear (me included) that bums me out since it's over.

On the flipside, it will only be short term since most likely I'll be out at it again after a couple weeks.

You know what... Shug's post has me rethinking my answer. Worse than slug-foot is seeing all the people who went out and bought a setup from a big outdoor retailer, thinking they are good to go, out on their first (or second, or tenth) trip and not sleeping well, or even doing things dangerously. Hammock strung drum-tight five feet off the ground, trying to sleep banana-style, etc. It's not those people's fault at all -- there is a serious lack of any attempt to educate newbies by big-volume hammock sellers.

OK, enough grumpiness for an otherwise enjoyable thread.

I don't agree. It's not the hammock vendors duty to educate people, it's up to the people to educate themselves. There's a wealth of knowledge out there to get yourself dialed in if you want to put in the effort and the research. The problem isn't a lack of available knowledge, it's the fact that people just want things handed to them for instant gratification.
