I haven't had the need to use an UQP yet. I have been using my DIY UQ and not been in any torrential rain that posed a threat under my spacious tarp. Since I will be receiving a incubator 20 soon I will now have more of a concern. I usually carry a silny backpacking poncho tarp I purchased many years ago. It has been a great multi function piece of gear for me over the years. I will now add UQP to it's repertoire. I'll try it out backpacking a few weeks from now.

My diy UQP is always in my pack...
My tarp has minimal coverage so if I'm in a exposed position below a summit & being buffeted by wild winds I'll use it, if I'm hanging in a densely forested area I won't need it.
If the temps are icy/frosty & going to drop below my UQuilts rating I'll use it.
In tropical environs I use it as a 2nd layer bug + a coastal breeze protector.
Incoming heavy weather, horizontal rain, downpours with big splashing raindrops, it'll be on.
It's a handy/ versatile piece of kit...use it when you need to.

Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

No one will argue with this - great folks and quality work. You don't need one but they sure are handy.
I use my 2QZQ often. You can treat the UQP with permithern for summer bug control and for cooler weather pull it up/around the top of your hammock (from chest on down) to use as a sock to manage the breeze/mist/blowing snow.
