Any one use a non-zipper TQ

I hate mummy bags...sleeping or TQ. I have used a 40 degree North Face rectangular bag unzipped and stayed plenty warm down to 55 degrees. Does anyone here use just a down blanket when temps get into the 40s? Can't find one that goes below 40 without spending $$$$$. Suggestion appreciated!!

You can go out to Hammock Gear and find a quilt with snaps rather than a sewn foot box and use it as a flat blanket if you like.Check out their economy duck down while you're there.

    costco down throws

seam rip, and when it starts to get really cold, add a 2nd quilt

stacked they're really pretty warm, and very cheap for the warmth

Any good gear will cost $$$$.

The Terminator and I bough have mummy sleeping bags that we have used as TQs. She has a Snow Lion sleeping bag and I have a North Face Ibex. Took many years before I could get The Terminator to even try a TQ ( which she now agrees are nice ). We would unzip them and use them open. My only complaint was that I found the hood to be annoying at night.

Most TQ's don't have zippers that I've seen, so I think what you're looking for is a TQ with a larger footbox, or none at all. You may want to look into synthetic insulation instead of down if cost is a factor. AHE makes an "alpine blanket" with 3.6 Apex, perhaps they would make you one with 5.0 Apex which would get you into the 40's: https://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/...neBlanket.html

Their "White Cloud TQ" looks pretty spacious in the footbox area, as well. I've admired that footbox design since they came out with it: https://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/...dTopQuilt.html

Otherwise, I'd just find a suitable TQ and leave it unbuttoned/uncinched.

One issue with the Costco blankets in cooler weather is they have no DWR on the fabric ( on the ones I have anyway) so in the cool weather they can wet out easy with condensation (from your breath or touching edges of..). They would be a bit nicer if the fabric was a bit more. You know. More Muchness.

I wonder if treating the fabric with a DWR spray would help. For the cost of a can ($10) it would probably be worth a try. I may have to do this with mine.

It may work. You can also get wash in stuff for down. That might be the better of options. It will treat the down a bit and the fabric. Spraying it on may clump the down if it goes on too thick. Not totally sure though. But yes, cheap way to improve it and say it goes on too thick washing the blanket a few times would remove some too!

Maybe just get a standard shape synthetic (less expensive) sleeping bag rated for 30º and use it in TQ mode. Trim zipper off or cover with tape or such.

    $39.99.....https://www.campmor.com/c/coleman-gr...e-sleeping-bag
