I went searching for this topic because I just received two Chameleons in the mail today. I tried both, and the ridgelines of both felt very long compared to the BBXLC I came from, and especially compared to the HH Explorer before that. In a few short minutes, I experimented with suspension angles and didn't quite get it right. I prefer an Amsteel ridgeline anyway, so I replaced one with a ~116" length of 7/64" Amsteel, shortened with knotted loops at either end. At the foot end, I left a bowline... I'll fine-tune it later. I measured the original spliced Lash-It ridgeline, and wouldn't you know it: exactly 110". Maybe I need something shorter than 83% for the Chameleon.

Just to circle back on this topic, I was contacted by a cottage vendor who shall remain un named. I was told that what I experienced is known as "constructural elongation", which is the initial and permanent elongation of the lash-it, and could have occurred due to a particularly tight hang. This particular vendor no longer uses lash it structural ridgelines for this very reason. I ended up getting an Amsteel ridgeline pre-stretched at 800 lbs, and I am back to the comfortable lay I initially had in my Chameleon! So, there you go...if you start to notice a pronounced calf ridge like I did, measure your ridgeline to see if it stretched!

Individual fibers in zingit lashit dyneema and amsteel stretch very very little.
When new braided line is pulled hard by a heavy weight—elongation or “stretching” is caused by the braid tightening. Once that initial loading has tightened the braid—elongation has happened and should be done and not happen again

Yep, exactly...that is the initial and permanent elongation. The weird thing is, I spend many nights in my hammock with no such effect, and then one night instantly noticed the problem. So, I think the vendor that contacted me must have been correct...I likely set up one time in a rush with an improper hang angle and too tight of ridgeline, which is when the "initial and permanent elongation" must have occurred.

I've got an adjustable ridgeline in the works, and I just ordered a Dutch biner for lounge mode.

I hope this gear spending hole is soon filled. I think I'm close.

I have 3 ridgelines that are all supposed to be 110" sold from cottage vendors.

The used blue one which is reflective and was not initially measured but after 6 nights use measured 117".

The 2nd grey lash it is new but was not initially measured and after a 3 nights use measured 114.5"

The 3rd grey lash is also new and was measured at 109.5" before it was ever used.

After just one night out it stretched about 2.5" to 2.75" (loosely measured). Because of this im now using adjustable ridgelines.

    Papatechie,
    Very interesting, and great photos!
FWIW... You could probably cut off the spliced locked brummel eyes and make new ones, to the appropriate length; with likely no issues at all, now that the braid/cordage has "stretched" out. It'd be interesting to see if it stretched out more, or really was "gtg" now.

Making them adjustable, does definitely use A LOT more cordage.

What would be pretty cool is if there were a way to know - say within a 1/4 to 1/2 inch - how much certain cordages used for making SRL's would stretch out after being installed and used/hung on. Plenty of variables to consider for sure.
