Full time hanging for a 10 year old

My daughter declared that she wants to hang full time in my ridgerunner. First thing my wife said is, "we need to find out what that means for development of a young body.." Or, something mom-like along those lines. My first thought was, "you're not taking my RR, we'll get you a netless one"

    Thoughts?

I think it will actually be better for her. Growing pains are a real thing and with the fact a hammock puts less pressure on pressure points it stands to reason that it will be easier on her.

Gathered-end hammocks are the traditional full-time bed of millions of people in Latin America, and have been since Precolumbian times. There is zero association with any developmental or spinal health problems. All the (few) statements of concern on this front (you can find if you look hard) are plainly invalid, spoken by people with little or no experience of traditional hammocks that do NOT force you into the shape of a banana. I wish I had discovered them 30 years ago: would have saved me a lot of chiropractic and other interventions for my back and neck problems, now gone thanks to 5-years full-time in a hammock. Now, this applies to traditional hammocks. Bridges, those will discrapulate the sacral meniscus by the age of 15, also blindness.

This could be a good case study. Let us know how she turns out in a few years

my son, who will be 10 in December, has been bugging me to buy him a hammock for his birthday. Every time I hang, either in the backyard or on a backpack trip he joins me on, he times it that when I am not looking he slips into my hammock. The only issue I have is that while he can setup his tent solo he is not able to do so with a hammock, I've had him help me setup a few times. While this is not a huge issue, it is something to make note of if you are going to get a hammock for a child.

A net less WBRR is about perfect for full time indoor hanging, she will love it as will her mom. No issues wit whether she can set it up, just do it for her and leave it up. Problem solved.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

    zero effect... Especially a bridge.
Kids are durable. The only example of a kid having an extreme upbringing that affected them for the rest of their life is that of a young girl who lived with her biologist parents exposed to monkeys. She played with the monkeys all the time and as a result her hand bones grew more elongated than normal and obviously very strong. The girl grew up to be a professional rock climber. Quite true, can't recall her name at the moment.

Now sleeping on a tensa stand could be damaging to a child creating a lifelong fear of tacos.

The only thing I would say- know your kid(s). Inevitably anything in a child's room is eventually a toy.
Sword fighting with bridge poles, goofing on them, sitting up and leaning against them while she reads or just more than one kiddo climbing in for wrestling are not good for the bridge... which may eventually be not good for the kids.
I do have a camping hammock for my 8 year old, but when my 5 year old daughter shows up... I set up a full size Hybrid 1.7 or Hex 70 gathered end as they will sit in it together.
They will wrestle, they will play, they will goof around.

All good healthy behavior and a great reason why your child should not take your bridge but should get her own durable gathered end.
