    Possible DangerBird net zipper conversion?

I have a DangerBird with both net and top cover. Realizing that they are not removable, I'm kind of wishing they were removable.

I am thinking if I sort of spliced in appropriate stoppers and insertion pins, potentially I could convert it such that the net and top cover could be removed and reattached easily.

Then I wouldn't have to always take both, which might be alright.

Seems doable, although it might take a bit of effort, but I've never done any zipper work before. Any reason I'm not understanding why this may not be feasible?

I doubt you could modify the zippers and have them hold up.

I'm with Peppy. Sounds like you want a Sparrow (as do I.)

Sell it, keep it for lending, or using when the weight doesn't matter.

A truly masochistic DIYer might tackle changing the zippers...

Sure, probably sell it. But I generally like it, just doesn't get much use since it's a little extra to tote compared to alternatives.

Sounds like you think zipper modification in general is a just a masochistic endeavor? Not necessarily that there's anything particular about the DangerBird setup that would be make it more difficult?

I just wouldn't try it because one mistake and you destroy a perfectly good hammock with resale value. Sure, after making a boo-boo, you could then send it in and PapaSmurf could probably repair it. But like I said, I just don't believe in trying those kind of mods on a perfectly good hammock.

The problem is that the pin and box closure is installed on the zipper to make it a separating zippers during the manufacturing process. As far as I know, these can't be added afterward.

Removing the zippers and attaching new ones would involve removing approx 132ft of stitching. That's like 12,672 stitches and that's a dealbreaker I'm afraid.

Like others have mentioned, I'd consider selling this one and having us build you another one.

    Thanks
    Randy

Thanks for the follow up, Randy. (Sorry I missed it before!)

Yeah, I'm definitely not interested in replacing the zippers!!!
