What changes the weight capacity?

Many of the commercial hammocks, I am most familiar with HH, have different weight limits for different hammocks made of the exact same material specs. For example the Explorer Deluxe and the Safari Deluxe are both constructed of 210D oxford nylon yet have different weight ratings. Similarly the ULBA and Explorer UL are both constructed of 70D high count nylon but sport different weight ratings. It's a good question and I suspect somewhat more complicated than just the fabric.

I asked them about this when I was ordering and the answer was the difference was in the suspension.

Does anybody have a rough idea of what the basic weight capacities of 1.1 and 1.9 ripstop are as far as the weight of the user?

Single layer 1.1 - 200-250?
Single layer 1.9 - 300-350?

I have laid in a single layer hammock made of 1.1 @ almost 400ibs it was one of the scariest 10 minutes of my life it held fine but and stretch it did............. Reminded of back in the day sitting in an old aluminum folding lawn chair, you know its gonna go its just a matter of when.

so basically -- with my 1.9 ripstop, I should be more than fine to have about 250-270 pounds of weight in it?

(I'm not trying to push what my hammock can hold, I'm under 150 myself, I'm just asking questions because I want to get my friend into hammocking and i'm just seeing what he might need)

I hear that is a big plus to the double layer, mosquitoes don't bite through it.

As a single layer, I'm not sure. I always use some sort of insulation under me. It's probably more mosquito proof than 1.9 ripstop, but I don't know if the mosquitos know that.
