Derek’s hang calculator should have an emergency alarm mode with flashing red skull/crossbones and “hull breach” siren if you punch in numbers like that. Not that they’d be using the app: it’s for you to get their attention as Local Concerned Hammock Inspector.

Really clever guys! They got the attention of our sewing queen. So give them, Jellyfish, what they are begging for - a free lesson of "How to make your own hammock and how to hang it the right way"! LOL

My neighbors leave their hammock up always in all weather. They are hung high although with a proper hangle. I've seen them replaced once they start shredding. So, maybe they are making a statement? "We're hangers!" I don't know.

That setup might be okay for a 100lbs person. For a while....

As tempting and well-meaning as it may be, unsolicited advice is rarely well received.

Just anonymously drop a copy of "The Ultimate Hang" in it and consider it money well spent.

I know, I wasn't asked, but I agree with this guy.

It goes along with that nugget of truth that no good deed goes unpunished.

    Spotted on my morning walk

In my albeit limited experience, that unsolicited advice thing often goes ignored. But I don't have the soft skills needed to deliver the message tactfully, either, which is why my expertise is limited; it's a vicious antisocial circle.

But some lessons just need to be learned the hard way. And there's not a lot of things harder than wrought iron.

If there's any upside to this situation, I suppose that if the rail is pulled out of the wall, the occupant will hit the ground with little momentum. And the rail will probably fall short of them instead of landing on them.

I hope the injuries will be limited to a new hanger's ego and to the security deposit.
