Dryer sheets & quilts: long-term storage

I have a couple of quilts in large cotton bags in a storage closet, and for the sake of keeping them smelling fresh, I’m considering throwing some dryer sheets in with the quilts. Should I be concerned about chemicals from the sheets discoloring the fabric where they make contact, or anything like that if stored for 6+ months?

    Thanks in advance!

Those leave a tacky feeling on clothes. And they smell like old lady perfume. If you do put them in, I'd try and keep them from touching the quilt somehow.

Who's to say I don't like the smell of old ladies?

Let's say I don't want a stale smell to infiltrate my storage bags. What should I use? Boxed baking soda?

Wash your quilts and don't store them in an environment that has a stale smell that could infiltrate your quilts. Your plan is just to scent them which is just just covering up. Solve the first problem and don't store them in a place where they take on bad smells.

Baking soda works only marginally and needs a large surface area exposed. It also tends to crust over and lose it's ability to absorb. You can try some activated charcoal, but again, the environment is a much better "fix".

Y'all doing cardio in these things? I just make sure I'm somewhat clean before bed. Clean sleep clothes too. Maybe it's just me, but I've only experienced BO from the arm pit area...so not too hard to wash up before getting into that expensive quilt!

What you're describing isn't always possible. While I don't know as smells will be a problem for me, I'd like to have some preventative in place in case it is.

That sounds like a solid idea. I'd still want to isolate the quilts from the oils, though, to prevent staining.

I've used paper sachets with potpurri-like stuff in drawers. That's not a bad idea.
