Indoor cotton hammock - unexpected result

I sewed up a monster 13' hammock made of cotton calico and slept in it last night.

    It was terrible.

The big problem is that the cotton hammock sticks to my cotton bedclothes. When I squirm around to find the sweet spot, my bedclothes become a twisted, uncomfortable wreck. It took forever to untwist them enough to get comfortable enough to sleep, but it was never quite right. I could feel my bedclothes dragging on me all night.

A more minor problem was how firm the cotton is. No give at all. It felt like sleeping on a board.

It's possible I could get used to these issues, but as I pondered them this morning I set up a Hexon 1.0 hammock for comparison and it felt so wonderfully soft, comfortable and non-grabby that I realised my cotton experiment was over after just one night.

That’s odd. Not sure of the specific meaning of calico, but my heavy (390g/M2) cotton hammock seems flexier than my Hexon. As for grab, I don’t use bedclothes. I appreciate that there’s enough texture to stick you to it at positions other than where gravity dictates. It also breathes better than nylons.

In Australia, calico refers to rough, unprocessed, and usually quite heavy-weight cotton. It was cheap, and seemed strong, so I bought it, from here:

The roughness of it might add to its grippiness.

I'll nearly always wear at least a t-shirt to bed, unless it's very hot. My home has neither air-conditioning nor heating, but the Sydney climate is mild.

Calico fabric is a plain-woven textile, made from half-processed and unbleached cotton fibres. It’s a coarse and rough fabric, but not as sturdy as denim or canvas for example, nor as fine as Muslin. Calico is generally very cheap due to it’s unfinished nature, and the fact that it remains un-dyed and raw.

I think most of us in the U.S., at least in the lower 48, have two mental images of "calico." One is an inexpensive printed cotton cloth and then there is...

I had a similar experience once trying to sleep in a lightweight fleece sleeping bag.
    Horrible!
Funny as it sounds I hate wearing pajamas at home but always wear a fleece or wool layer when winter camping. It makes getting up at night or in the morning a much better (warmer) experience for me.
