Help with Winter Tarp Selection

Isn't it great spending other people's money? Lots of great options out there from all of our cottage vendors. For winter conditions, it's all about blocking the wind and snow, along with maximum coverage. I'll toss in another vote for the SLD Winter Haven. Weathered many a storm in it and it's never let me down.

Leaning toward the Dutchgear tarp as its the most affordable at $132.

And the Dutch tarp just went on sale, although now that I look at your price there that's probably the sale price with the side pull-outs added? The site has been all over the place today with pricing as he gets the sale up, so I'm not certain what's what quite yet.

I have both a 12' UGQ Hex and a 12' UGQ Winterdream. I love the Winterdream! Even in three season conditions I would take it over the standard Hex. I will eventually pick up the HG Cuben Winter Palace to be my one do-it-all. If you want air flow you can just prop up one side and tie back the doors.

I think you might want to consider a MountainFly(width 10") or Superfly (width 10') to go low with less ground gap.
ThunderFly has width of 8.5'.

Thank you. For whatever reason I like the smaller doors. Perhaps easier to enter and exit. So the mountainfly appeals more to me than Superfly.

Because it hasn't been mentioned yet, check out WildernessLogics Old Man Winter tarp. I like that it can be ordered in 13 ft length to allow complete closing of doors with a Ridge Runner.

In the winter, I run the ridge line UNDER the tarp to provide more support in case of snow fall - both from the open sky and heavily loaded tree branch. Note that in the winter, not only do you check for dead branches above, you also check of heavily loaded tree branches. The "lore" is to usually not run the ridge line under the tarp because it can be a freeway for water to run down and, especially in wind, it can wear against the seam seal on the ridge. In the winter, rain is not so much an issue and it's easy to use surrounding snow to make a wind block if needed. Also, one usually doesn't go out that often that wear is an issue. And the SeamSeal can be replaced.

But in the summer the ridge line goes above the tarp.

Marty of Wilderness Logics recently passed and unfortunately no new orders can be made. Appreciate the suggestion though.
