I've been planing to thru hike the pct this year but obligations won't let me to the trail head until august. I'd be going south so I think my biggest concern would be winter storms in Northern California.
My question now is with enough insulation will I find the trail passable, or is it a bad idea going this late?
The elevation increases as you go north to south, and the highest high sierra will be the central/southern sierras. So unless you are an experienced winter camper and familiar with the challenges of high elevation weather - I don't think it's a good idea at all. The entire supply chain of stores and resorts will be shutting down in September and October. You will be facing an unsupported hike unless you are willing to hike out two-three days to civilization each time.
I agree with lori. weather changes pretty fast up there. if you do go wear plenty of orange. It is deer season that time of the year.

perhaps a flip flop? PCT center to south, then north to center? just a thought.

Yea thats kind of what I expected to hear. I think I will have to put it off until next year. My dog looks alot like a deer. I also wouldn't want to get stuck on a mountain and have to eat him. Thanx for the input.
although dogs taste good i dont think that would be pc(maybe in vietnam)
