Video: Mille Lacs Kathio State Park (Black Bass Lake Campsite)

About a hour and fifteen minutes northwest of Minneapolis you will find Mille Lacs Kathio State Park. The park is connected to Rum River State Forest(northern part). The temps were from about 41 to 34. A few friends and I wanted to check out this park since it is so close to the cities.

The hike to this campsite requires a short amount of road walking(~500 ft). We parked at the Dump station at the request of the ranger. Total it is about a 1.75 mile hike in to the site. The trail is well worn and you can see they drive the trucks back in on it. A few spots were overly muddy and had some unsuspecting deep pools of water so watch out if you go in the fall and can't see whats underneath.IMG_20181103_131305.jpg

The campsite opens up on this beautiful lake and has one really nice tent pad, however I think it may be a little close to the firepit if there is any wind. Don't worry though, there are plenty of other places for tents and hammocks. The site also has a nice pit toilet but no walls. My buddy also brought a camp pad chair, where you shove the pad into this cover and it makes an L, works great but you really need a stump to get full use of the chair.

The only downside to this amazing site was that highway 169 was off a little in the distance. You could still hear the traffic slightly even throughout the night. I think it would be less of a problem in the summer with more tree coverage. A nice site with a well maintained trail. If you are feeling more adventurous you can always disperse camp in the Rum River State Forest less than a mile away for free, just don't do it in November since Hunting season is going very strong in that area.

As always, for those that want a video. Thanks for reading.
