How wide are your tree straps?

I use one inch straps like most people seem to do and where I hang there are lots of mature trees to hang from so I'm not hanging on thin trees with thin bark.

I also haven't run in to any "Strap Police" (love that!) because I stay away from the tourist areas and explore crown land.

I have had encounters with conservation officers and none have ever mentioned the straps while looking at my setup.

I don't know how hard it is to get off the beaten trail south of the border but in Canada I can go where I'm not going run into a crowd because as we all know, there is always one in the crowd......

1" straps for me

Two inch sleeves are cosmetic, forces on tree are from what’s running through sleeves.
I use Dutch’s 2.0 dyneema straps, blue with three black racing stripes—-it’s one inch wide, but soon wrinkles and becomes ropelike.
I’ve started wrapping twice around tree (round turn) not to save the tree—-to save me! Both sides slipped downwards on trees last week. Did not touch ground—though close. Last week was only one wrap around tree, with some of Dutch’s dyneema spider daisy chain straps. Trying out a new suspension!
I’ve been thinking of getting Dutch’s lightest strap. It’s advertised at 1.5 grams per foot? It might be a fraction more. It’s said to remain flat, much flatter than other lightweight straps.
A round turn adds more tree gripping friction and squeezed contact all way round tree.
Trees are tough—most of them. In high use campgrounds, trees go through lots of wear and tear. Way out in woods I don’t worry about trees.
Two wraps on tree takes longer setup. Sliding down tree can increase wear and tear on both tree and strap.

I have often thought this too. Every time I hear of some camp site official accepting sleeves as well as some parts of the country wanting 2" straps that will accept sleeves. But if they will accept them far be it for me to try and correct them.

Exactly, it is so easy to just accept it and enjoy the hang... The ranger is only doing what the rules call for.

I have always used ratchet straps. They have nice big hooks. I bought actual tree straps. I hope to have them for Saturday. I am looking forward to trying them out.

I use one inch straps. Usually, I'll be able to go around the tree twice though, so it's just like using 2 inch straps.
