Have you ever gotten off trail to stealth, only to discover someone there before you who had the same idea? I realize the odds are against that happening...

In N. California, Humbolt area, this is a serious problem. Plenty of people hurt because of the drug growing gett'n done, when all they wanted was to go hike.

I agree with the earlier comments. Most people will be looking ahead and below the trail most of the time and won’t really notice what’s on the ridge above them unless it really stands out.

I can think of at least three geocaches that I hunted that were uphill of the regular trail, but not too far away from it. With one exception, no one noticed me as they strolled by since I sat still and made no noise. I was pretty much in street clothes, so I wasn’t camouflaged by any stretch of the imagination . The only exception was the time that some other geocachers came along looking for the cache that I was currently logging.

Just had a funny image in my head of me trying to sneak uphill to stealth camp and finding 12 other hangers up there with the same idea...

If you go down, and someone else goes up, and they decide to just let fly....

Well, think I'll just go up.

Your wife gave you these I assume:

    THE RULES

    1. THE FEMALE ALWAYS MAKES THE RULES
    a) The rules are subject to change at any time without
    notice.
    b) No male can possibly know all the rules. Nearly all
females are born with this knowledge.
    c) If the female suspects the male knows any of the rules,
she may immediately change any or all of the rules.

    2. THE FEMALE IS NEVER WRONG
    a) If the female is wrong, it is because of a
misunderstanding which was a direct result of something
the male did or said wrong.
    b) If rule #2 applies, the male must apologize immediately
    for causing the misunderstanding.

    3. THE FEMALE CAN CHANGE HER MIND AT ANY GIVEN POINT IN TIME
    a) The male must never change his mind without express
    consent from the female

    4. THE FEMALE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANGRY OR UPSET AT ANY TIME
    a) The male must remain calm at all times, unless the female
wants him to be angry or upset.
    b) The female must under no circumstances let the male know
whether or not she wants him to be angry or upset.

    5. ANY ATTEMPT BY THE MALE TO CHANGE ANY OF THESE RULES COULD
    RESULT IN SEVERE BODILY HARM

Uphill to a ledge puts you on more level ground and out of sight. Sound travels better uphill, too.
