    HG top quilt sewn/zippered $ ?

Was noticing that when looking at HG topquilt footbox options, the sewn is more expensive the zippered/drawstring option. I figured it would be more expensive to pay for a zipper+its installment but the opposite is true. Does anybody know why this is?

Also a side question: Does anybody know how long the footbox section of the HG standard length topquilts are? (distance from the bottom of the bag to the begining of the opening)

    Thanks!

The sewn option includes a fully insulated circular footbox,.so more labor,.more down etc.

I don't know how to answer your questions specifically. I assume there is more labor in the sewn foot box. The zippered unit is a flat quilt and when you pull the draw string at the bottom it gathers it together and wholla.. you have a foot box.

The sewn version is dimensional, so that it has more room and no chance of drafts. It does prevent you from opening it up and using it as a blanket. I have a EE quilt with the zipper/draw string and it works fine for moderate weather. I think the colder you go the more details like this start to matter. On a 40 deg. night either will work just fine. If you push into colder weather and/or you suffer from cold feet then the dimensional foot box may be a better choice.

Sewn footbox has more down. I personally can't understand why anyone would want a drawstring footbox.

I'm a bit of a rebel here, but I like how my 40° topquilt with zipped footbox works. I also tie down the drawstring to completely close the hole. The sewn footbox feels so restrictive; a 0° would definitely be sewn though.

I hope to get a 20° topquilt with zipped footbox very soon. I'm also getting long-wide to be ground-friendly.

Doh. I've just pulled the trigger on a 20° zipped footbox. I haven't camped in freezing conditions yet. Wish me luck in freezing conditions.

I have a 30 deg. EE quilt with the zippered/drawstring foot box and have to say it has never bothered me. I have a set of 3 oz. down booties that are too hot for anything above freezing..... although cold and wet is also down booite conditions. I've been hiking in the freezing rain all morning and sitting in my house wearing them now. LOL....

I agree. More down, totally sealed, nothing to do. Just the warmest feet possible.

That's why I like the drawstring footbox. It helps keep things cool in warmer temps

I ordered a diamondback with the zip footbox, I like the idea of being able to use it as a blanket when it is warmer outside, it was 41 last night and I was too hot in my rei sleeping bag opened up as a quilt
