    Fail.

Trying out new gear tonight. Getting ready for winter. New straps that I bought from local camping store failed. Didn't break but stretched to the point I ended up on the ground. So I went to Dutchware and bought some new straps. Hopefully they will be here this week.

What straps did you get from the camping store?

And what straps from Dutch are you replacing them with?

This is why its always good to test gear at home before going out on the trail. I can't image a strap stretching that far though. Which straps did you purchase?

They were just some no name nylon straps. They cut them to length at the store. I didn't think they would stretch either. I bought the spider poly blend straps tonight. I'm hoping they work out better

The spiders will work great for you. I am a big guy and the Spider 1.5 2" tree straps work perfect for me.

Wow, that sucks, and a humbling lesson to learn. Thank goodness you were home.

For the uninitiated "ALWAYS MAKE SURE HOW MUCH WEIGHT STRAPS WILL SUPPORT". I check the weight rating of straps I buy. No rating no sale.

There is a lot of stress on the straps we use, way more than our weight. There are several threads on the subject. Be Safe!

Your right. I shouldn't have bought the no name straps. I even asked the guy at the store the weight rating. He didn't know but I bought them anyway being impatient. To be fair to the store though they cater to tent campers more then us hammock folk. They just don't know alot about it.lesson learned I guess.

You were smart to test them at home. Applies to all gear. We can all take a lesson from this!
