    In the Hammock

Alright all you hammock hangers. What do you do in the hammock once you're in it. I know some of you go right to sleep, but I know others of you stay awake for awhile after hitting the sack. What do you all take with you to keep entertained in the hammock?

In the winter when it gets dark WAY before I'm ready for slumber, I flip on the iPod and watch a movie or listen to music whilst practicing some knot tying. However, in the summer when the days are long and the hikes are longer, by the time I hit the hammock I'm ready to blow spit bubbles for the night, so minimal extra-curricular activities for me.

Audiobooks, music. listening to the woods. Talking w/ friends. Very rarely watch a movie on itouch, only if alone and truly bored.

Watch a show, read a book, listen to a book, or listen to a podcast. Got to love this generation of smart-phones. Only thing missing is Shug releasing his videos as a video Podcast so I can take them with me!

I camp to get away from the non-stop racket of "civilization." No way am I gonna take it with me. No way.

My favorite is to lay there listening to the woods. Not much to listen to in the winter, so I listen to the quiet. Every now and then, usually only in the winter, I'll take my iPod for some movies or music. I've taken a book a couple times but it's not very comfortable trying to ready by headlamp in a hammock.

for me it depends on the type of trip I'm hanging at. Boy Scout summer camp, week long camping in one spot, I'll be carrying my kindle. I never know when I'll have a few "spare" moments and be able to read. Backpacking I'm usually to tired to do much of anything except camp dutys and then I flat out am asleep in no time. Maybe if I could plan a backpacking trip where I stopped hiking sooner and then had more in camp time?? Then I might want something to read later. I like to meet the other people at the sites I camp at and don't usually spend much time alone in my hammock unless I'm actually asleep.
