Nama Claw Instead of S-biner on End of Continuous Ridgeline

One thing that has always bothered me with my continuous ridgeline for the tarp was how my straps rubbed up against the ridgeline whenever I lowered the tarp way down for bad weather. I know it made no difference in usability but it just messed with my OCD. I've always used an s-biner and a spliced hook on one end of my zing-it and a small metal figure-9 on the other end. I could easily make a "V" on the figure-9 side for my straps to go through. I could tie a knot around a bite on the s-biner side to create the "V" as well but it wasn't the easiest thing to adjust.

So, what I've ended up doing is putting a third Nama Claw on my ridgeline. One for the loop that goes around the first tree and two for the tarp. Now I can make the "V" as big or as small as I want just by sliding the claw around and it won't budge once I draw the line tight with the figure-9 on the other end. AND most importantly (to my mental health which needs all the help it can get at this point), my straps can now go inside the "V" letting me swing back and forth without bumping up against the ridgeline.

I recently made a tarp ridge line with three Dutch hooks and a Nama Gear Claw. The tarp has loops tied on the ridge's D rings and two of the Dutch hooks on prussics engage the loops there. The third hook is the end of the line at the tree and the Nama Gear Claw provides the mechanical advantage on the other end.Rather than deal with making a loop every time I added a prussic loop for the Nama Gear Claw to engage. It is amazing how tight it will pull a line.

Very nice! The more I play around with these claws the more I'm liking them.

Looks as if the tarp is fairly high above the hammock. Can you lower it for bad weather?
UL, because nobody ever asks "How can I make my pack heavier?"

They work with 1.75mm Zing-it and the like. I would guess 2mm line maximum, and not certain they work with that.

1.2-1.8mm according to manufacturer. I like how these work, but I find that they make untangling cordage a real PITA. The little open ended hooks want to catch on everything. I wish they made a closed loop version.

They will work on any cord under 2.0mm. You might be able to get 2.0mm to work but it would be a very tight fit. A stiffer cord is easier to thread thru the opening of the claw.

When taking down my tarp ridge line, I move both claws to one end of the line before I figure 8 the line.

If I need to lower my tarp then I lower the tarp ridge line.

Nama Claw Instead of S-biner on End of Continuous Ridgeline

The NAMA Claws are excellent, and I too have expressed interest in a closed-loop version. If you anyways keep your ridgeline with your tarp, there's no need to ever disconnect them, and yes, they get tangly and grab every bit of loose cord.

But I use a small Dutch hook for the fixed end of my tarp ridgeline. My takeaway from this thread is to double-loop the working end at the hook to make a large V. My tarp ridgeline is always interfering with my hammock suspension. I like that idea, and I'll try it on my next outing.
