I frequently use an old 32 deg mummy bag for a top quilt. Just unzip it down to the 'footbox', stick my feet in, lay it on top of me.

I have a couple of old sleeping bags which I converted to TQ's by removing the zippers and hoods entirely, and enclosing the bottom end for the foot box. They look ugly, but very effective.

I have a really nice marmot 0 degree bag that is always use like a quilt and was thinking of converting it to a TQ. My wife is good at sewing but I’m not. Didn’t know if it was a pretty easy job?

I took a down 32 bag from Walmart, added down to their generous baffles, removed the zipper, and have a very nice winter TQ that I use to -10

Takes about 2 seconds, unzip the mummy bag and drape it over you. If you are worried about the zipper slider damaging the hammock you can wrap a little duct tape, or something similar around the slider. That way you can still have the versatility and warmth when needed of a sleeping bag and the convenience of a TQ for warmer times.

I too use a down bag for a TQ. One is a semi-rectangle the other is a mummy with hood. My biggest issue is the size. The big semi-rectangular is great as a sleeping bag but just too large to use in the hammock. On the other hand the mummy bag with it's foot box works better as it's a smaller bag to begin with. So small in fact I can no longer use it as a sleeping bag.

I'm going to convert the mummy to a TQ by removing the hood and most of the zippers. Cut it down to the right size and use the extra down for overfill or other projects. There are several videos on YouTube showing possible options.
