    Toggle Crimp issues

Hi All - I have been using the UHWMPE straps for a bit and have had some toggle crimping issues. While I am pushing 200lbs, I don't believe it is my weight causing the issue, as a friend who is well under 140lbs has had similar issues.

I've experienced this on both the titanium toggles as well as the 1/4" aarow shafts (I believe aluminium).

Anybody else experiencing this? Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere by another member.

You need to hang the suspension on the knot and not the toggle. I use aluminum toggles.
All my tries at carbon toggles ended up crushing even if I had my whoopie on the knot.
That uhwmpe is pretty thin. In my studio I have been testing some but use a wooden dowel 1/2" toggle. No crushing.

For sure...definitely not hanging on the toggle itself. Danger!

Watching your vid reminded how flat/wide the other strap types stay...hmm..will think on that a bit.

Yeah I'm willing to bet that the loop isn't totally on the knot as well.

I wish the solution were as easy as that. I seat (Bury) the loop on the knot. Fortunately, I got in that habit about 500 hangs ago.

My gut feeling is that the webbing, being so light weight, folds in on itself significantly.

I have only used the UHWMPE for about 80 hangs but it is pretty darn supple....and it started out that way.

I take an axe when camping and use toggles from mother nature. Nice thick sticks make awesome toggles, and weigh nothing/are disposable, or use for kindling for the AM coffee boil. I have the UHMWPE straps as well and they are wonderful with the MSH. They are thin, so they do kind of fold in on themselves, but are supple, and last. They hold my portly 290ish frame just fine in the hammock.

I haven’t used the lighter weight webbing, but from all the pictures I’ve seen of it in use this is my guess as well. Since it’s more prone to roll up, it’s doing the same when making the Marlon Spike Hitch and concentrating the force into a smaller area instead of spread along the toggle like with heavier webbing.

If I used this lighter webbing I would likely skip the toggle and just use a Becket or J hitch.

    Just an Aggie’s perspective.

I made these out of 1/4" aluminum rod 4 grams heavier then the Dutch titanium ones.
