VIDEO: Sub-Zero Camping, My First Time

I took advantage of some unseasonably cold temperatures to test some gear and my winter camping skills on a solo overnighter in Afton State Park (MN). Stacking under quilts, tie outs when the ground is frozen, and frozen Subway are some lessons learned. While cold, the weather was really nice. Beautiful clear sunset and some light snow on the way out.

Very good video and some nice points for cold weather camping. Besides the Vaseline cotton balls I bring some dryer lint and a couple of small candles. Lights easy. Headed out next weekend to the woodlot for a little practice myself. Thanks for the video the editing was outstanding. Take care, Al

Great editing on the video. We don’t get too many days of freezing weather here on the gulf coast. But I do have a question as to why you had the bug net deployed when you had said that there were no insects out.
My ego said, SURE you can.
Half way in my body said OH NO YOU CAN'T

The Warbonnet Black Bird XLC has tie outs on both sides. They are attached to the bug net. Plus, it kind of mental thing I like separating me for the outside. I will be switching over to a Ridgerunner in the future which doesn't have the pull outs. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing the great video. I agree about the self-shooting, and found myself thinking about how many extra steps and time it added for you. Look forward to watching some of your other videos. Stay warm out there.

Very good video, I enjoyed that! Congrats on your first sub-zero foray being a success over all. I am still stuck a few degrees above zero(6F) for my personal best. I have to travel to get the kind of lows other folks get all the time, it is so rare for us to get even near zero.
