Dutch Gear Hanger as a Bag liner?

    Hello everybody,

Don't know if this has been asked but as the title states, can we use the gear hanger as our waterproof bag liner too? that would take care of two birds with one stone in my books.

That's actually a really great idea and would work perfect for that. Then when you get to camp you empty it out, turn it around and hang it up.

Anyone know how waterproof the bag is? I would only be concerned about submersion - I mean, I know that isn't a common thing, just curious how much it would hold out. Great idea though!

Since the Gear Hanger is made from waterproof Xenon Sil .9, it is a vapor barrier and will be sweaty as heck and a condensation collector. I don't think I'd want to use it as a bag liner, if you mean "sleeping bag." Maybe you mean pack liner?

I think the material would be OK, as it is intended to serve double duty as a pack cover. The issue would be how to seal the edges. If you gathered it up like a bag and tied something around the "neck", it might work. It's something I would try in a pinch, but I don't think I would count on it day to day.

I have one and love it for many reasons. See my review in the Gear Review forum. That being said, I'm with skater in that I don't see a way to make it into the "bag" it would need to be to perform as a good pack liner. Even so, it is a great piece of gear and comes along on all my trips.
