Oddly it's been my theory that the lack of ripstop grid made the M10 taffeta acceptable to hang in. We're a bit beyond any serious engineering talk and into speculation land but; It's my theory that the ripstop grid tends to load first, which can lead to it overloading/failing... then cascading that failure into a bigger one as the shock load gets dumped onto the fill threads. Bit like how a climbing gear 'screamer' loads in a specific order to dissipate the shock load.
With the taffeta the whole cloth starts out taking the load evenly. There is some deformation but since there is no ripstop to deform... you're not over-stressing anything specific or creating new point loads on the ripstop grid itself.

That said... increased fill threads and super high IDFL results may also mean the ripstop grid is less likely to deform under load and then overload. So long as the whole mess moves together it might hold up as well if not better.
6.5 ounce tree to tree rigs that fit in your pocket have a place too.

I wouldn't be super optimistic, but it should go. If I was still 190 ish... I'd feel pretty confident, not too sure what you 160 ish pound folks are so worried about.
Too bad you don't have some big lunky college aged kid you can stick in there floating around at the shop...

Really I just want to build a 9.25 ounce end bar bridge with it. Little Spider 1.5, M10, and carbon fiber poles would do it.
Granted you wouldn't be able to fart in it... but sounds cool on paper.

So is this a lighter alternative for an outer quilt shell or a more durable alternative for an inner quilt shell? Or both?

I think it's both for a couple reasons:

Lighter Outer - Obviously, it's lighter than 0.9 oz 15D options. It's heavier than some 10D options like M10 nylon taffeta, but with the high-density ripstop, you aren't giving up quite as much abrasion resistance and general durability. Granted, it's still a 10D fabric and should be treated as UL.

More Durable Inner - The high-density RS tends to increase abrasion resistance and general durability. M10 RS also has a more balanced weave between warp and weft. In our experience and testing, this further increases the durability, especially when you're directly rubbing up against the fabric. It also increases the downproofness.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Curious on if/when you plan to release more colors in this 10D RS as well as your 7D RS?

Yes for both. Although with all the new things we have in production right now, it will likely be a few months.

Right on, thanks! Just ordered my first round of M10 RS for a new Wookie clone. Excited to get my hands on it for the first time.

Thanks Carter, great compliment coming from you. This one will actually be a synthetic clone for a buddy of mine. Once I knock it out, I'll have a better idea for how I want to tackle a down version for myself. Hoping the ripstop version of M10 proves to be durable enough for the "carrier" fabric portion considering WB uses a much heavier 20d. If it does, I'll be using the same for mine.

I have a wooki-type uq using a 15d material and it works no problem. Since the carrier isn't weight bearing because of the elastic element, I would guess the 10d would be fine. Now I want one!
