Awsome looking TQ.
I was just woder why you didn't add a draw string at the top of the quilt?
Also your patern mentions sewing ~3/4" from edge, but you used 1" GG. Did you trim the edges so the first seam isn't exposed? Just wondering....
Since you are a cold sleep as I am how many layers of the CS green do you think I would need to make a TQ rated for 0 - 10 degrees?
Bob - you need to fold the the GG in half to cover both edges of the fabric, giving you 1/2" on each side.
No drawstring? - just because. It would be ideal, and I can add one any time I want. I just haven't yet as this is a warm weather quilt.
Yes, and thanks for clarifying. Trim the edge after sewing. If you sew too close, it just causes a lot of problems with these materials all squished together. Better to leave a bit of room and trim it after. I cut pretty close to my sew line. Then push as much as I can between the gg binding. Use pins for binding!
I really can't speak to how many layers for that degree rating. I would think three should be sufficient (9oz ought to do it, but I can't say for sure). Look at KAQ temp ratings to get an idea. It would be bulky at that much Climashield, but likely no more-so than any store bought synthetic sleeping bag/quilt for that rating.

great looking quilt. how big of a foot box could you make without altering this pattern?

You could make the quilt straight w/no taper - that would give you 54" to play with for the footbox size. You can make it any shape - it's just that all four sides need to add up to the length of your quilt at the foot end. Mine was 46", so 15x8 rectangle works out (four sides of rectangle: 15+15+8+8=46). With a 54" foot end you could have a 15x12 rectangle. That would be huge. Even 46" is huge in my opinion.

thanks. I am trying to decide whether to make or buy my tq.

As much as I like building gear, when it comes to a "real" top quilt, I'm going to be giving Adam at ThePerfectTrees a call. I may be wrong, but I believe he's done some synthetic quilts for a few people as well.

Nice quilt !.
I need to do an underquilt.
CLimasheild only needs to be sewn at the sides, IE no quilting.
The basic estimated temp ratings just for a general guideline from Tim marshall for quilts for XP are 2.5oz - 45dF, 3.7oz combat 35dF, 5oz 25dF.
