I'm a side sleeper in bed, but that doesn't work for me at all in a hammock. It took me a while to get used to back sleeping - I hung a hammock in my office and slept in it for a while. Initially, I couldn't sleep an entire night on my back, so I would move to the bed when I woke up to water the bushes. After a few months, I was able to sleep an entire night in the hammock.

I cannot fall asleep on my back in a bed or in a hammock. I have to side sleep regardless of where I am.
That said, I have had no problem side sleeping in my Chameleon. You will need a pillow or something to serve as a pillow, but I suspect with a little bit of trial and error you can figure out a way that works for you. For example, I now know where my downward shoulder needs to be positioned by looking at the tie out loops. I still lay at an angle (head on one side and feet on the other) and sometimes bend my knees and pull my feet up. Don't let people scare you off from a gathered end hammock just because you are a side sleeper. Give it a shot.
