    Northern Utah Winter Hanging

I'm looking to do more winter camping this year. My usual backpacking companions aren't crazy enough to venture out in the winter, so I've mostly only done quick solo overnighters close to a vehicle for safety reasons. I'm not looking to host a formal hang or anything, just curious what other Utah hangers are doing. Depending on dates and/or locations maybe we can combine trips or something.

    My Details:
    I'm in Cache Valley
I have my gear dialed in down to 0 or maybe -10 deg F
I have a pulk type sled
I have access to X-country skis
I don't have snowshoes but could rent some if needed.

(HERE are some winter pics of a 2 night trip I did last year.)

Wish I could join you! I used to live in Layton decades ago, loved hiking and camping in the Uintas and Wasatch, and a little further away in the Wind Rivers! Yay!

Not super far away but still 6+ hours - would love to though - like Billy Bob said Wasatch would be B*da**

    Cabin Fever

I'm starting to develop a bad case of cabin fever and just need to get out. I'm going to go on a quick overnighter (hopefully this weekend) to make sure all my winter gear is in order. Then I'm going to plan on doing a more serious trip around the middle of February; anyone is welcome to join me, company makes the long dark winter nights more tolerable.

Sounds like a blast, wish I was closer to your part of the country. I’d love to tag along for a sub zero night...

Not quite sure what the terrain and snow pack will be like, but I certainly love having my snow shoes for winter hikes... it’d be worth looking into getting a pair for your trek! It can be quite miserable to be hiking and post hiking your way to camp.

Good luck and can’t wait to hear how it goes!

Made it out last night. Only got down to around 30*F but it dumped about 8in of heavy wet snow. Too fun!

Looks great! I'm an assistant Scoutmaster in Davis County (UT), so I usually get at least an overnighter with the boys every month. I'm recovering from a couple of surgeries right now, however, so not sure how soon I'll be back out. Building my gear collection bit by bit & the next big purchases will be down UQ/TQ. I'll try to revisit & post some photos from recent outings. In the meantime, happy hanging!
Enjoying my fall into the rabbit hole...

I'm game for winter hangs. I just got back from this weekend spent in the Uintas. We snowmobiled into the scout lake 3 sided cabins and stayed the night and had a lot of fun on snowboards and sleds the next day. Temps only got down to 14 deg. F. I was anticipating the worst and was equipped with enough gear to survive well below freezing. The cabin really made a big difference in terms of blocking wind, providing a place to put gear and in general just hang out under the lantern and play some cards. Man oh man were the stars good out there as well. Felt like we were the only ones in the whole world out there.IMG_4878[1].jpgIMG_4874[1].jpg
