I voted for sep 18-20 bc that is the only weekend im available. Also where is dolly sods, is this a hike in hike out trip or a out of car camping trip, im down for either. WV isent that far away from me but is their an exact location yet? That would determine a bit weather I could def make it our not but as long as it with in 6hrs or so im down .
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
For me, Labor day is a no go, Sept. is the best month for going out there for me.
Sounds good as far as backpacking goes. Thanks for the info.
Dolly Sods is in Pocahontas county pretty much on the back side of Canaan Valley. It will almost certainly be a hike in trip. If HappyCamper is thinking of camping near where we where last year then we will be near the base of BlackBird Knob. That's a couple of miles west of FR75 which is the main access to that part of the wilderness area. Here is a link with Blackbird Knob marked. Also I've included a link to a hike on midatlantichikes.com in that area. He has a trail map up so you can get an idea of what's there.

Pocahontas County has lots of pretty places, but not DS. "Most of Dolly Sods is in Tucker County with small sections in Randolph and Grant Counties." - Wikipedia.
The rest of what Rock Rat says is true. Here are some pics taken in September 2008 (by someone else) of a hike up Red Creek to the Forks, just south of Blackbird Knob.

Don't feel bad RR. I had to look it up myself - would have guessed Randolph.
