My DIY Back yard and Desert Hammock Stand

So I had some time, and having few trees here in the Sonora, I made my own. This is still a work in progress but it breaks down to 8 feet for the back of my truck. Soon as I get the wing nuts for the legs it will be real quick to put up and take down. So off to Lowes. 6- 8ft- 1 5/8 line poles, for Chain Link fence, 4- 1 5/8 end connectors for the top rail, 1 "ID" connector for 1 5/8 top rail, 2- 2 1/2 inch S hooks, Some cheap chain and a few 3/16 X 2.5 eyes. Couple end caps for good measure. I already had the 18 inch stakes for the end ties. Ill make a couple amsteel whoopies for the end ties. I picked up a cheap night eyes key chain that had 6 small steel beaners on it for the spreader chain. I came down the legs 48 inches for the spreader chain and the chain is 45 inches long. This works well for me and gives me the same spread every time, and keeps the legs from kicking out. No cutting, just a little drilling!!!

My wife asked why I was building a swing set and I told her it was for me. She shook her head and walked away.

Looks like it should work fine as long as the guyed out stakes stay put. PS: Do you do know where your dog's nose was a minute ago?

Blue sky, green grass, no snow, and short sleeves...sigh.

Do you ever know where the dog nose was looks like he is in my face but he is just resting his head on the shoulder making sure I know its chow time. Im using 18 inch spikes for the end tieouts. Just snug, and it is stable.

If you look at the the picture of the S hooks, you will see some 550 cord that goes straight out to a couple stakes. The brackets that hold the top rail are good for just holding the rail but they give no support for the legs moving side ways. if you stand at the end and shove it would collapse So a tie out on each end stabilizes it. I just have the 550 tied for now, I have a bunch of amsteel so im going to make some whoppie slings to replace the 550. Ill get some better pics when im off duty again. Nice thing is all you need is the tie out to just be snug. It doesn't take much to stabilize it.

Thank you for sharing your idea! I did not know there are fittings like that to connect the legs to the ridgepole.
