What is the angle of your dangle?

Looking for my optimum UCR length and would like to know the max suspension/tree angle advisable. I know 30 degrees is advised but what is the acceptable max?

    15 degrees - 386 lbs
    10 degrees - 575 lbs
    5 degrees - 1147 lbs

If the hammock starts at shoulder height and the ropes are 3 feet long (to the ends of the ridgeline) then at 30 degrees the ridgeline will sag about 1.5 feet, and it will be about 4 feet from the ground. I think that is enough to keep the hammock from touching down. If the trees are further than 13-14 ft apart then the attachment height needs to be higher or the angle smaller.

Okay, maybe this is too much theorising, but after the mathfest that went on earlier in my absense I just couldn't help keepint the ball rolling.

With my DIY hammocks I find that a sag angle of closer to 40° works better, but that's not the angle that's affected by tree to tree distance. The ridgeline angle (not the hammock support angle) gets smaller as the distance between the trees and the tension on the ridgeline increase. If you get much beyond 25 ft apart for the trees, your ridgeline angle will be less than 10° to keep your hammock off the ground, and the forces get big. This assumes that you're using a structural ridgeline; if not, to keep a 30° hammock support angle (or more) you simply attach your tree huggers to the trees at a height of 10 ft. when the trees are too far apart.

    Found what I needed.
Sorry for asking the same question twice.
    30 degree rule

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it is often recommended that you hang your suspension so that it rises at 30 degrees from hammock to tree.

If you do, for every foot of suspension line there is half a foot of elevation gained.

The answer depends then on how high up a tree you can put the tree hugger and toggle, and how high off the ground the suspension line is where it meets the hammock.

Suppose then that the hammock hangs at 2.5' off the ground
and you think you could put in a tree hugger 6.5' off the ground. That's 4' of vertical gain, which at 30 degrees would use 8' of cord.

My cords are typically 8'-10' long; I think I can put in a hugger at 7.5' off the ground
    Thank You Grizz
