Yeah, there are quite a few options--all depends on what you want to do and how far you're willing to drive!

How about you? Are you able to find places to camp nearby or do you need to travel a bit?

I've been to Madison, WI once, but not for recreation. I've never been able to get up to either Wisconsin or Minnesota for any camping or backpacking--those are definitely places I want to go, though...especially for a winter trip. Shug's winter vids make me really want to get up there in the northern piney woods.

We sadly don't get that kind of persistent snow or cold down here in Virginia.

And Maine is definitely on the short-list, too!

Hope you get to visit all of those places sometime soon--with your Sparrow.

Your going to love your new Dream Hammock. I live in Wisconsin if you are ever up this way give me a shout out. I also have two dream hammocks one for me and one for the wife. Best hammocks I have had so far. We both really enjoy them. Here is our Sparrow https://www.dreamhammock.com/order_d...tml?order=5485 and here is our Thunderbird

    BikecampRu,

Both of your Dream Hammocks look great--I especially love the OutdoorINK Fallen Branches pattern on your Sparrow! I really like that fly, too. Nice!

For anyone who's interested, I went out last weekend for my first night in my Sparrow. I posted a trip report with a few pictures here.

Had a chance to overnight in the yard last weekend. Low temp around 27 degrees. The overcover is nice! Was perhaps a bit of a cold night to be fiddling with the UQ but then it was a good way to get the hang set up.

Slept nicely, though I did have to lower the foot end in the early AM when I picked up on some pain from a hyperextended knee. This happens on some mattresses, too. The foot end is now about 6 inches higher now.

Will have to pick another pair of trees next time as the 12’ Journey arriving soon won’t fit the two I last used. The 3mx3m DD tarp had about a foot on either end.

The foot six inches higher seems to work best for me as well.

    hang-anon,

I'm glad that you had a chance to sleep in your new Sparrow and that you were able to alleviate the hyperextension issue.

Just speaking for myself, I'd love to see any photos you've taken of your
Sparrow. Would enjoy seeing the HG Journey tarp, too, once it arrives.

So far (~knocks wood~) I've never experienced any hyperextension (or calf-ridge), neither in my Sparrow nor in my older HH Expedition A-Sym.

My Sparrow was really comfy last weekend. As I mentioned in my trip report, I tend to move around a lot in my sleep, and when I finally woke up, I was laying along the long axis of the hammock instead of asymmetrically. That's not so unusual for me, but the big thing is that I was still comfortable.

Nonetheless, I'll keep in mind the advice about raising the foot end around 6", in case I ever have any issues.

    Here's one in the yard.IMG_1174.jpg.

This is under the DD 10x10 tarp (in a snakeskin), before I made any adjustments. And i forgot to add I had a slow slip of a Dutchware cinch buckle after re-hanging it a second day. I hang it. I sit in it. My butt's sitting on the ground! Not quite sure what happened there, guess the slide in the titanium cinch buckle wasn't fully seated.

That's a great pic--looks really nice hanging with the snow in the background.

Huh. Yeah, that sounds like a reasonable explanation.

What kind of tree straps/huggers do you use? I read that Dutch's Kevlar straps and his Spider Web straps don't work well (or at all?) with buckles--you don't happen to have either of those, do you?

Since you posted a pic of your hammock and I figured not everyone will read the trip report I posted and see the photos of my set-up, I decided to post those here, too. It was raining, so I wasn't able to get the really good shots of the hammock that I wanted, but I'm going out for over-nighters for the next two weekends, also, so I should be able to get better pics of it soon:
