Curious what you guys are looking for in making sure your down is even accross your quilts. How are you shifting it around and what tells you a spot needs more vs is acceptable?
Does the leg area need less than the buttocks up areas?

I don't really do anything other than a quick shake to get the loft started. At least I feel like that helps. My top quits seem to need attention since they're actually being pulled, crushed, twisted, etc. throughout the night. At the top, the down always collects towards the ends where the snaps are so I smack that part to even it out. That moves some down back towards my neck area.
But with the UQ a quick check doesn't hurt. Set it up and run your hand along to see if there are any thin spots.
I just give a shake the length and then the width of the quilt. Next I give a quick feel with the palm of my hand to be sure things feel even. No big deal. The new style down is so nice it just wants to fluff and fill in thin spots.
I, too, shake it - well actually I kind of toss it up and fluff it. Sounds funny.
If I don't see major "low" spots I do nothing else. If I do, I push down where it needs to be. This really applies to my TQ, but I would do it in my UQ if needed.
I shake, snap, pat and fluff.
