OK folks, time to start planning what has become our first warm(ish?) weather hang of the year. First weekend in April in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest!! For those that haven't been hanging all winter (what's wrong with you?!?) here's your chance to get out and hang again!! It's also a great opportunity for those getting started, or with marginal gear looking to test it out. If ya need gear make it known there are plenty of us that are willing to share, there's no reason for a piece of gear or even a full setup to keep someone from coming out.
For those that are interested in the history of this hang here is the thread from the inaugural event https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ang-April-8-10 What started as an excuse to get WI hangers together, after a winter of many new members joining the forum, turned into a bunch of great people (from WI and IL) that met online coming together and creating Thanksgiving in the springtime woods......and a lot of wonderful memories!!
Who knows what the weather will be like this year?!?! Last year's thread with pics at the end https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...sprintergiving, and the year before https://goo.gl/photos/sMd1ZcinEdVgmgC48
Site cost will, as usual, be split amongst all attendees. The more the merrier!!
A state park sticker is required http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/admission.html Carpool if ya can!
Ottawa Lake Campground is where park stickers and firewood can be purchased, as well as where you're supposed to register. Last year I had a firewood delivered, depending on the weather I can do that again otherwise everybody should plan on buying a couple bundles.
There is parking in front of the site, as well overflow parking in the same area that also serves as trailhead parking for the Scuppernong Trails and a connecting route to the Ice Age Trail.
Here's some info about the camping as well as the surrounding area:
Pinewoods Group Camp offers four large sites (A, B, C and D) that accommodate up to 40 people and 20 vehicles per site. The Pinewoods campground has pit toilets near the sites and a shower house with flush toilets in the center of the campground. Water has been available nearby in the past. Electricity is not available on the campsites. Pinewoods group camp is open for camping from April 1 through the Wednesday before deer gun hunting season. This campground is on Waterville Rd. in the town of Ottawa. Campers must check in at the Ottawa Lake contact station off Hwy ZZ in Dousman.
