Ahhhh, so. Gotcha. I keep CLs on the hammock and use different suspensions depending on what I'm doing.

    Short whoopie for tight spaces

While I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere else before, it is also possible to make a very short whoopie for hanging in tighter situations where closely spaced trees or posts are the only viable options.

The key, of course, is to put the whoopie's adjustable loop bury as close to the fixed eye bury as possible to make it very short when fully 'retracted'. The maximum length is determined by how long you want to make the free tail end.

Photo below is such a whoopie. Threading the fixed eye thru the hammock end channels makes it a bit shorter, with a final minimum possible length of about 14 inches or so. Also, these are generous buries of 4" on the fixed eye and 8" on the adjustable loop bury.

UL, because nobody ever asks "How can I make my pack heavier?"

I'd say it's a close call because if using MSH/toggle you can get it pretty close to the tree. Easy enough to skip it entirely and connect CL to MSH.

But the problem in these tight situations where the hammock barely fits is that the tarp won't fit at all.
