    Carabiner and slapstrap replacements?

Im new to the forums and I need a lot of help! I would like to replace my slapstraps and stock carabiners on my eaglenest. What should I get and prices? I want something similar to the slapstraps. Some kind of cord I can tie loops into at a given interval. As for the carabiners just something that isnt going to "bite" my hammock when I pack it in the stuffsack. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

    whoopies and webbing

I am new to the site as well. I just switched out my stock rope and biners with whoopie slings. (opie makes these for a great price or you can make your own.) The whoopie is adjustable so you don't need set loops like the slap straps. I used webbing for the tree hugger. The great thing about both of those is minimal stretch unlike the slap straps. I just got back from my first trip using this new set up and it worked GREAT. While my buddy had the slap straps he always uses and was on the ground by morning time. Watch shugs videos for newbies. I think there are nine of them now. The first one will explain all of this in detail.

Go to "Forums", "Suspensions, Ridgelines, ..." and you will find dozens of alternatives. Any of these could be used to replace the stock suspension on an eagles nest or any other store bought hammock.

I believe it is safe to say that all of the options we use include some form of a strap around the tree. The strap around the tree can be just long enough to girdle the tree or long enough to do the whole thing.

What connects between the tree strap and the hammock is a matter of personal preference and a subject of much debate on the forum. Explore the archives and find the system that appeals to you, then go out and try it!

I use "Dutch clips" to hold the strap around the tree. Before that lightweight climbing rated carabiners. All of which fit into my Black Bishop bag and none of which "bite" the hammock. Before that a bowline knot.

There is a posting somewhere in that forum for a way to create multiple loops on a strap for adjustments such as you are describing.

I have the Doublenest and swapped my suspension to whoopie slings and 5' of poly webbing for each tree. I made toggles out of a knitting needle. Light and easy to set up!
