    Strap Knot

Well I have my first one made. It is a down and dirty throw together. Going on vacation at the end of the week. I wanted to have it done it time to take with me. I used many of the ideas I have seen here and other places. I have about 10 ft 1.1 Oz Wallyworld special nylon. 2 2" steel rings. and 2 10 Ft good nylon straps.
The nylon, I just folded over to double up. I thought about folding length wise, and still have enough to build the next one that way. I tried it out tonight and did not go THUMP. That is a plus.
My question: what knot are you using for straps on the other end. The tree end of the strap. The way I tied mine tonithg gathered the strap inside of the knot. I think I would like to keep the strap as flat as I can. Tips and sugestions are greatly appreciated.

Tying to the tree? I use a figure 8 in the webbing to make a loop, or see the Hennessy web site for instructions on tying to the tree with a figure 8 type knot.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

It sounds like you have one long continuous hammock with a strap suspension attached to the hammock on each end and open to the trees. Most people here have experience with tree straps (huggers) that are fixed to the trees and adjustable at the hammock with cinch buckles. Your setup is fixed at the hammock and not adjustable without taking the hammock back down.

So to answer your question, a marlin spike hitch would work, or a mooring hitch if you want easy take down. The hennessy site has directions for a figure eight lashing, which is simply around the tree, over itself, around the tree, over itself, repeat, repeat, repeat, ... and tuck the end.

    I hope this helps.

Oh, and welcome to the forums! BTW, Your concern about the flatness of the strap is unnecessary. The strap is just as strong if it is rolled up with the knot around it.

Thanks guys, I did see the video last night AFTER I posted the question. I think I will change to 2 rings on the hammock and a figure 8 on the other end of the strap. This seems to be the most easy means of making adjustments without taking everything apart.....well after I fix it.
