Stackable bins would be convenient, but you found your quilts breathe well enough in them? Or you put some holes in the plastic? I had read not to use a lid if storing them in plastic containers, but that would eleminate the stacking benefit.

The breathability is a concern of mine, too. Each of my quilts are in a large plastic bin. I have been contemplating cutting holes to alleviate this.

I've also considered a bin. Partly because I have limited wardrobe space (the bin can be placed on top of the wardrobe) but also because I live in an old house where we have some bug problems. It isn't too bad, but something that isn't totally clean and lies around unmoved for a long time could tempt the little *******s. Now I'm going to get a synthetic quilt which the beast don't find as palatable, but they do eat synthetics too if it isn't clean, as in washed since it was last used. It's really oil and scraps from our skin they're after, the fabric's just a side dish.

Is breathability really a concern if the quilt is well aired and dry when the lid goes on? It's hard to imagine why it would be if there is no dampness.

I affirm the cotton pillow cases. You definitely want something that breathes to prevent any bacterial growth from residual moisture.
