Pine Sap

When your on the trail. boil about 1 cup of water and 1/4 cup of finely chopped up pine needles. let it boil for about 5 min and you have a mild turpentine solution that will dissolve the sap when rubbed gently in a circular patten you gear. Boil 2 cups of water in your pot to flush out any remaining solution and you're good to go for cooking again. The longer you simmer the needles...the stronger the turpentine solution will be [points of reference, Pine needles in simmering water = pine tea Pine needles in boiling water = turpentine ]

Rubbing or denatured alcohol both work very well. Neither will harm your straps or fabric.
