Setting up tarp to seam seal-where?

Where in the heck do you pitch your tarp to seam seal it?

My diy silpoly tarp still hasn’t been sealed because I can’t figure out what to tie it to inside and it’s hard to get a long stretch of good weather in south Louisiana.

What’s the minimum amount time I have to leave it pitched?

I seam seal in the basement with the tarp set up between supports. Not sure on how long. I leave it set up for a couple days for drying. I also sprinkle baby powder on the silicone after applying to keep it from sticking to the tarp when folded.

I set up a couple of those 8 foot plastic portable tables in my garage. You can come over and use them if you want.

When I seam sealed my tarp I did not hang it. I laid it out on a 6’ long folding table in my basement. All I needed to seal were side pull-outs so one side (2 pulls per side) was easily accommodated by the length of the table. I sealed the two pull-outs, let them dry overnight and then slid the tarp so I could seal the two on the other side. It worked great. Nothing got gummed up or on the tarp itself.

If you were needing to seal more than just side pulls (e.g. a seam in the ridge, etc) I’m sure you could use the same technique and just work in sections that the table will accommodate.

To note- I did have to put some “items” on the tarp to keep it from sliding off the table. A book or two strategically placed was sufficient. Those tarps are slippery suckers!

I had this problem, too, and in the end picked a sunny day (challenge in Scotland) and staked it out flat on the lawn, sealed it, and let it dry for 4-6 hours. Then hit it with the talcum powder and that was it. I was crawling over the tarp to do it which meant I was very careful to inspect the ground underneath first to make sure there was nothing there to hole it. Worked out just fine. To limit the dry time, use just enough sealant to get the job done. Good luck. I fretted over it but it turned out to be pretty easy.

I put long grabber screws at an angle across corners in a small bedroom and strung up my tarp, the screws are plenty strong if you don't put weight on them, I used flowable silicone and let it dry for like three days, I should have used powder after but I didnt

Roll up the tarp so that the seam you want to seal is on top, then fold it in half and you have a bundle you can work on by putting it on the floor. Seal that half and when dry (probably another day) turn it over and seal the rest.

My solution was to tie one end to the top of the stairs bannister and the other end to the bottom of the stair bannister on the opposite side. It was a slight pain to have to duck under the tarp while it was drying but that was only for a day. Worth it though.

I simply set my Superfly up in my basement and stretched it out the best I could...sealed it all and left it hanging for three days and it was good to go!

Good idea with the baby powder!
